Tom is a Lay Community Worker for the Methodist Church in Scarborough. He says "I have only recently begun volunteering with FISS but have seen the great work of the team in action in schools over many years, sharing the Good News of Jesus with children and young people in relevant and engaging ways.

Joe Coates (or Mr Coates in school) has been telling stories in assemblies for about 30 years - first as a teacher and then 12 of them as a volunteer for FISS.
Joe says "I continue to volunteer because I cherish the Bible stories and am alarmed how many children have never heard them. In one primary school, a few years ago, just forty out of about 300 children, aged up to 11, knew the story of David and Goliath!" Joe is also a published author with a series of 10 story books for young children, based on the miniature train engines at North Bay Railway in Scarborough. |
