FISS is back - again!
An April Update
So, after a successful Autumn term, learning new skills and creating online materials for schools, Catherine and Christina were just getting into their stride, when they were sent back into lockdown and furloughed yet again. Sadly, this meant that the, planned, Easter Journey was not able to go ahead. However, with three weeks back at the end of the term, they were able to create an online Easter assembly for schools and another Easter craft resource. So, it was ‘all systems go’ in order that Easter wasn’t missed entirely by FISS for a second year. Feedback from schools was all positive.
If you haven't seen any of our resources yet, check out our YouTube channel here:
On the 14th March, Catherine and Christina did an online sermon / missions presentation for Ebenezer church which was well received. They were able to give an update about what FISS is currently up to and where it is headed. Catherine and Christina also gave a personal account of why they work for FISS and some of the challenges that they have faced over the last year. You can view it here:
We had a successful, zoom, Annual General Meeting on the 23rd March. We discussed a new mission statement and logo to reflect what FISS is doing right now, and how we hope to move into the future. This is now in development and all will be revealed soon! A big thank you goes to Amy Kendall for agreeing to develop our sketches and ideas into a useable logo.
In an exciting new development, FISS is going to be involved in some year six, transition mentoring for those moving to secondary school in September. This is linked to funding awarded to Sidewalk for this project.
As many of you know, FISS and Sidewalk share an office and work alongside each other, sharing resources and ideas. Catherine will be doing four hours of mentoring at one of Scarborough’s primary schools to fulfil this commitment. Those hours will be covered by Christina, to keep FISS on track, plus an increase of three hours, which was already planned.
It is hoped that the links made through the transition mentoring, will help with our aim to serve secondary schools, again, in the near future.
We are pleased to have been invited back into Overdale School this term. It is very exciting to be able to see the staff and children in person again after a year away. We will continue to make online resources for schools that are not, yet ready to have us in.
There is much to plan for. We hope to raise FISS profile, and thus funding, to, eventually, increase our human resources. This will enable us to serve more schools, more effectively.
We are holding a prayer meeting on Tuesday, 20th April at 11am. We hope to make this a regular monthly event, so please join us if you are able. This will be on Zoom with the following details:
