Workshops

FISS offer a range of different workshops throughout the year. Our workshops vary in length but all are interactive, engaging and educational. Through our workshops we seek to support schools in delivering the RE curriculum. Some are linked to particular times of the year, such as our Christmas Labyrinth; while others are suitable all year round, such as our Prayer Workshop. The workshops are led by our RE Hubs accredited Schools Workers and supported by volunteers. All our employees and volunteers are DBS checked prior to any work in school. All our workshops are delivered in school. The exception to this is the Christmas Labyrinth which takes places at various venues across Scarborough and the local area.

Our annual Christmas Labyrinth at the end of November and beginning of December is a highlight of the year for the FISS team. Written for pupils in Year 2, it is wonderful to invite them to journey round our 20' Labyrinth and meet the cast of the first nativity. As part of the workshop, the children are also given an opportunity to complete a craft with the help of our friendly volunteers.
Often we deliver this workshop at a number of churches around Scarborough and the surrounding area.

The 'It's Your Move' workshop is a 90 minute workshop published by Scripture Union that can be run with a max class size of around 30 children. We offer this workshop after SATs, for children in Year 6, as they prepare to make the move to secondary education. It is a classroom based workshop and activities include drama, challenges, media and discussion.

The Prayer Workshop is a 75 minute workshop, written by the FISS Team, that supports the teaching of 'Why do some people believe God exists?' and 'Why do people pray?' The Prayer Workshop is for children in Year 3 .
Good News Detectives is a 2-hour workshop written by the FISS Team for children in Year 4. During this time the children will consider what Christians believe about Jesus from the Old Testament prophecies and from the gospels. This supports the learning of, 'Why is Jesus inspiring to some people?'
